Summer is leaving us, in the coming fall we have new Pitch Events! CoCoon Pitch Night Series is holding its semi-finals for the new season on September 26th 18:30-20:30, check here for the details.

According to the event holder, so far in 2013 entrepreneurs have received over HKD1,000,000 funding from investors they met at CoCoon. This is an exciting number, isn’t it!

Tipping Point Hong Kong Event Overview

If you can get 300+ Hongkongers to take an entire day off work to attend a sell-out conference on innovation then I would hardly say entrepreneurship in this town is dead. On the contrary, it’s alive, kickin’, and poised for explosive growth.

The conference, dubbed Tipping Point Hong Kong and moderated by Prof. Gregg Li, is the product of Business and Professionals Federation of Hong Kong (BPF), where Li serves as Vice Chairman. The events’ aims are to promote innovation in Hong Kong, bridge gaps between industry and government, and encourage students to participate in the process of innovation. A dominating theme I’ve been hearing in the business community, and today was no exception, is that Hong Kong needs to diversify away from banking and real estate and invest more in innovation and entrepreneurship. This should be encouraging for those of us supporting or running startups.

Tipping Point Conference Speakers Say Collaboration is Essential to Hong Kong’s Future in Innovation

Concerned about the future of Hong Kong’s ecosystem, the Business and Professionals Federation of Hong Kong (BPF) gathered thought leaders, investors, and supporters of innovation alike to brainstorm solutions at the Tipping Point conference on Friday.

We had the opportunity to chat with keynote speakers Professor Gordon Redding (Senior Fellow at INSEAD and a specialist in the comparison of capitalist systems) and Dr. Po Chi Wu (An Adjunct Professor and initiator of entrepreneurship and innovation programs at HKUST), and they told StartupsHK their thoughts on the conference and the future of innovation in Hong Kong.
