Born and raised in the Philippines, Dustin moved to Singapore to pursue a Bachelor of Computing in eCommerce where he first took the leap into entrepreneurship during his time at the National University of Singapore.

Although he was unsuccessful in raising funds for his patented dumbbell design, Dustin gleaned from this first experience that investors are more likely to back startup teams with a proven track record. So he decided to ramp up his work experience by going into management consulting.

After 2+ years of advising senior management of Fortune 100 companies and startup CEOs, Dustin was eager to jump back into startup life and teamed up with his classmates from HKUST’s class of 2015 MBA program to create uHoo.

5 Questions with Catherine Tan, Co-Founder of Notey

Before co-founding Notey, Catherine was an investment banker for a number of years on both the regulatory and derivatives side. While she enjoyed the fast-paced and well-compensated nature of a finance job, she felt it was too removed from the dynamism of change and innovation of the entrepreneurial realm – a place where she’s always felt drawn to.

Yearning to build something from the ground up that makes people’s lives simpler, Catherine teamed up with her husband and co-founder Kevin Lepsoe to create their first startup.

What’s coming up for Notey? Besides presenting at CoCoon’s Final Pitch at the end of this month, they’ll also be representing Hong Kong at TechCrunch Disrupt SF next month as a part of the Hong Kong ICT Delegation with Cyberport.

After studying Chinese language and culture for many years, PhatRice.com co-founder Anthony Lance got his Masters in Chinese Studies. Armed with a fluency in Mandarin, Anthony helped an American company grow their business in the Greater China region, which was acquired by a Fortune 100 company after four years of exponential growth.

In 2013, his colleague and co-founder Matt Davies, who is a branding expert, began thinking of building a Hong Kong startup that could positively impact the social and environmental challenges faced by local communities. Since Anthony and Matt are both well-versed in the sales and marketing space, they saw an opportunity to help social initiatives take their development projects to the next level.
