Pictured with Hampton Creek CEO Josh Tetick, LKS gives the synthetic eggs that he just bought for US$23,000,000 a scramble tryout. If anyone should know about the demand for eggs, it’s the man who owns Park N Shop!

While Hampton Creek has been doing well in the US, holding deals with six Fortune 500 retailers and food manufacturers and even secured $5.5M of funding less than four months ago, Hampton Creek has an eye on Asia’s resources and customers.

Artificial Intelligence-Powered iPhone Calendar App ‘Tempo’ Launches in Hong Kong

Tempo AI, makers of an artificial intelligence-powered productivity iPhone app, has expanded to Hong Kong. Since Li Ka-Shing’s Horizons Ventures was one of their early investors (they took part in Tempo AI’s seed and series A round), Hong Kong and it’s English-speaking population along with it’s business-focused mentality seemed like the perfect choice.

The Menlo Park-based company has been collaborating with prestigious R&D outfit SRI International (the lab behind Siri) to inject years of AI research and semantic tech into Tempo Smart Calendar – which is focused on improving the daily workflow for business professionals. A few cool features include auto-dialing into conference calls and checking flight statuses – without having to even launch the app.

We interviewed Raj Singh, CEO of Tempo AI, and he told StartupsHK about Smart Calendar and how it’s different from other intelligent personal assistants such as the widely-used Google Now.

Google’s Empowering Young Entrepreneurs Program in Collaboration with CUHK Launches in Hong Kong

Remember back in November with Google’s Eric Schmidt announced the Empowering Young Entrepreneurs (EYE) Program in collaboration with the Chinese University of Hong Kong?

Since then, the Google-backed program has drawn 900+ young and aspirational minds to vie for a coveted spot in EYE. While the Google and CUHK partnership is great news for the startup community as it adds another valuable resource to the ecosystem, what exactly is this program and who is it for?

It’s a one-year program providing interdisciplinary entrepreneurship training which will put participants through a series of workshops and seminars. Networking opportunities will be peppered throughout the EYE program, and entrepreneurial trainees will have the opportunity to draw from a deep well of expert mentorship.
