Ready for Hong Kong Satellite tomorrow night?
We’re partnering with tech blog e27 to host Echelon Hong Kong Satellite, a pitching event preliminary to this year’s Echelon. Satellites are pitch events hosted in major Asian countries such as Malaysia, Japan, Korea and Thailand where shortlisted startups pitch to a judging panel of key investors and community leaders. One winner is selected from each Satellite event, and startups will represent their home cities at the huge June 10-11 conference in Singapore.
Hong Kong’s Satellite, which is hosted at Paperclip tomorrow night, has selected StartupsHK founders Gene Soo and Casey Lau to join Mohan Belani of e27, Simon Squibb of NEST and Catherine Chang of Sumitomo Corporation Equity Asia to form a judging panel.
Last year’s Hong Kong winners were Perpetu, a service that helps us manage your digital life after death. After winning the pitch and going onto represent Hong Kong at Echelon 2013, Perpetu gave us a one year update on what the online asset management startup has been up to.
“We’ve launched our premium service and have been featured on TechCrunch and the Daily Mail UK [and] are collaborating with businesses in the fields of insurance and estate planning to further grow our user base,” said co-founder Ryanne Lai. “We’ve been hiring freelance programmers to assist with the development of the premium product.”
Ryanne says that in the past year, she and her co-founder Andrea Livotto has learned the importance of finding various avenues of targeted user outreach – since the concept of online assets planning is still quite new. “Instead of simply marketing our product to the mass, we’re now focusing on the needs of people who are, or will be in situations that require them to consider planning their legacy,” she said.
