Last month, Google Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt visited Hong Kong and announced that Google will be partnering with The Chinese University of Hong Kong on a program to help students and young entrepreneurs in Hong Kong to innovate and connect with the global community. Now the program, Empowering Young Entrepreneurs (EYE), is officially open for applications. University students and young entrepreneurs can apply from December 10th, 2013 to January 20th, 2014.
This program is designed by the CUHK Center for Entrepreneurship, which includes a series of training and mentorship, workshops, conferences, networking opportunities, as well as talks hosted by leading entrepreneurs and Googlers. Accordingly the outstanding participants will be sponsored to visit Google’s headquarters in Mountain View to connect with the global community of entrepreneurs.
Scott Beaumont, Managing Director of Greater China of Google said that,
“The Internet and entrepreneurship are key drivers of economic development. Through the ‘Empowering Young Entrepreneurs (EYE) Program’, we hope to help young entrepreneurs launch and accelerate their businesses, and connect with the global community.”
In this program, eligible applicants will be invited to join a Mentorship Training session in early 2014 consisting of a series of workshops, seminars and mixer gatherings. During the session, applicants will gradually learn about entrepreneurship and using technology to build effective business models.
Upon completion of pre-mentorship training, participants will work as a team on their ideas or business proposals. Those selected teams will be invited to pitch their ideas, business plans and/or prototypes to a panel of experienced judges to secure their a place in the mentorship program.
Interested individuals should apply online by filling in the online application form, starting from December 10th, 2013 to January 20th, 2014. Applicants need to provide personal information and a Personal Statement to express their interest and vision in entrepreneurship.
Eligible applicants must be:
● A Hong Kong resident with a Hong Kong Identity Card who primarily lives, works and/or studies full-time in Hong Kong
● Between the ages of 18-35 (by January 20, 2014)
● Aspiring to start his/ her business in Hong Kong, or has started the Hong Kong based business within 5 years
