Here in Hong Kong, we find our startup scene being constantly compared with our Southeast Asian neighbor Singapore.
As this ‘Startup Nations Asia’ report indicates, Hong Kong and Singapore both boast very similar environments in the areas of regulation, financing, talents and technology. As such, the two cities’ are two of Asia’s most ideal places to build a startup – the upcoming Techventure 2014 will be the perfect place for Hong Kong and Singapore to converge. Running from September 23 – 25, the three-day conference will give tech startups from Asia-Pacific the chance to network with other technologists, VCs, private investors and the regional business community.
Organized by the National Research Foundation, Techventure will be held at the Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre and expects to have a diverse group of over 140 startups from Israel to Australia exhibit, running the sector gamut from ICT to biomedical.
Here’s what to expect from Techventure 2014:
- Business Match-Making: investors and startups in the region can connect and make deals in a match-making session on September 24th.
- Global Tech Speakers: while past speakers include Kevin Hale, partner at Y Combinator and Eduardo Saverin, co-founder of Facebook, confirmed for this year include Phil Libin, CEO of Evernote and Steve Chen, co-founder of YouTube.
- Business Pitch Competition: startups pitch to a judging panel while the audience and a pool of investors get interactive using an app to select “pass” or “follow-up.”
- The Techventure Pitch: startups will also pitch during refreshment breaks in the exhibition hall to VCs, corporate ventures and investors.
- Visit to Blk 71: attendees have a chance to tour Singapore’s tech hub and the world’s most densely packed startup ecosystem.
