Don’t miss it if you also care and want to be part of the New Hong Kong!
Today we have Ms. Elaine Ann from Tipping Point who is also the President and CEO of Kaizor Innovation to share more about this event:
(HK=StartupsHK, E=Elaine Ann)
HK: What is the mindset behind Tipping Point?
E: Hong Kong is at a Tipping Point.
We either sink or thrive. Hong Kong has all the ingredients to succeed as an innovation hub – we have international talents, low tax system, we are a finance center, one of the easiest places to setup a business, and we own world class infrastructure. However, we’ve not been communicating, each community is in their own pockets and territories.
The Tipping Point Innovation Conference is organised by the Business Professional Federation (BPF) that is the original group that drafted the Hong Kong Basic Law. I’m helping liaise the Startup community to participate on the different Panel Sessions as well as the “Startups-Angels Speed Dating” Session, as we feel that Startups in Hong Kong will be an important part of Hong Kong to innovate into the future.
HK: Who would be there?
E: There will be 300 attendees from Policy Makers, Investors, Entrepreneurs, Educators, and Students.
Innovation is cultural but to make it actionable, it has to be sector-specific. In this conference 8 panels, representing some of the key sectors in Hong Kong were set up to develop actionable proposals to promote innovation for the sector. They are Finance and Properties, Education, Transport and Logistics, Leadership in Innovation, Social Enterprises, Patent Scent, Scaling Innovation in Startup, and Silicon Harbour- Sink or Soar. In a one and a half hour discussion, each panel will try to address the notion of how to promote innovation by focusing on a specific question, issue or application specific to the respective sector.
HK: Why startups should attend?
E: The Tipping Point Innovation Conference is an event that is about how Hong Kong should innovate into the future, and Startups are being a big part of the equation.
The conference will bring together the brightest minds of Hong Kong in the different industry sectors of Finance and Properties, Transportation and Logistics, Patents and IP, Social Enterprises, Education in both old and new industries to discuss and debate the new way forward.
Startups should attend because we don’t live in a vacuum.
For Startups to thrive in Hong Kong, we need the right ecosystem and culture to foster innovation e.g. legal structures for investments/IPO, protecting Startup innovations and creative assets, visas for hiring, affordable business environment, government funding schemes and policies etc. To get all these in place and a ecosystem that fosters innovation and Startups in Hong Kong, people have to talk and come together with innovative solutions.
It’s the best platform for Startups to voice their needs and cross-pollinate with other community stakeholders to converse and share new ideas on how Hong Kong can move forward.
HK: Anything special for the startups?
E: Yes!
