Sometimes the best innovations are ones that affect a small group of people’s daily lives.

So this is your chance to help change Hong Kong through technology.

The Social Innovation Camp held its first information night last night at Retro Spot in Quarry Bay – a cool new co-workspace set up for creative startups.

The point of the evening was to introduce the attendees to the concept of a “startup weekend for social innovation” and to brainstorm some themes that would work.

So the plan is as follows:

  • Submit your idea here for your social innovation – you have till August 30.
  • 6 ideas will be picked by a regional panel of jugdes.
  • On Sept 27 at The Good Lab everyone joins in to see what the 6 ideas are and form teams around them – teams of marketers, investors, designers, programmers, students – anyone who wants to get involved and help social innovation in Hong Kong.
  • Then these teams have 48 hours to build that idea into reality.
  • A panel of judges will vote on the best 1 of the 6.
  • The winners go to Kuala Lumpur to compete against the other winners from KL, Jakarta, Manila, Singapore, Cebu and Seoul.
  • The winner will get a bunch of prizes and potentially investment to continue to build the idea into a real social enterprise.

So if this sounds interesting to you please submit an idea and spread the word of this exciting event to your friends.
