May the Voice of Entrepreneurship Stay Strong in Hong Kong this 1 July

Today we commemorate the transfer of the sovereignty of Hong Kong from the United Kingdom to the People’s Republic of China and the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

Emotions have been running high in Hong Kong these past few days (years) – and we just wanted to make a quick post today that no matter what happens nothing should be able to take away Hong Kong people’s entrepreneurial spirit – no matter where that takes us, no matter what liberties are taken – you will always have the right to your own destiny.

These entrepreneurs that share their time at Startup Weekend, helping the next generation are startups, are people that we should be proud of:

The government’s InventHK office brings StartMeUp Hong Kong back this year – bringing new entrepreneurs to Hong Kong and shining an international light on our city – here is a highlights video from the launch party a few weeks ago:

Recruitment is a process that any Hong Kong founder has griped about at one point or another. While the struggle to find the right person for your fledgling startup is certainly real, it might have to do with the untapped potential of the local talent pool.

We had a chat with Jean Yoo (pictured right in the top photo), the co-founder of LIBBLER: an Asia-focused career development platform that helps connect employers with young talent. Having met her co-founder Sue Kim at a UBS leadership development program back in 2009, the two women experienced firsthand their organization’s efforts to retain their top employees, but also witnessed the high turnover in the lower rung.
