Gurus Gathered at Cyberport’s Asia Innovation Forum 2014 to Discuss the Future of Hong Kong’s Ecosystem

Cyberport recently hosted the two-day Asia Innovation Forum 2014 (April 23-24) themed “building a more vibrant mobile ecosystem through innovation and collaboration.”

Featuring guru speakers in the IT, entrepreneurship, investment and mobile space, the aim of the forum was to chat about the latest business trends as well as dissect the problems Hong Kong’s ecosystem is currently facing.

Wednesday’s diverse afternoon panel made up of Dominic Chan (project director for CUHK’s Centre for Entrepreneurship), Stephen Ho (chairman of the Communications Association of Hong Kong), Charles Mok (Legislative Councillor, IT at LegCo) and Andrew Pang (chairman of Cyberport’s Startup Alumni Association) tackled issues surrounding Hong Kong’s ecosystem specifically.

Startup Veteran Cedric Delzenne Helps Launch Hong Kong Chapter of ‘The Founder Institute’

The Founder Institute, the Silicon Valley-originated entrepreneur training and startup launch program, is coming to Hong Kong!

In addition to General Assembly and Paperclip’s Academy, the Founder Institute is a welcome addition to Hong Kong’s startup educational resources. Through a rigorous four-month program, Founder Institute helps new entrepreneurs “learn by doing” with structured training, expert feedback and support from experienced startup CEOs. And they can do all this without quitting their day jobs.

Some names from the dedicated mentor list include Simon Newstead of Frenzoo, Yat Siu of Outblaze and Joanne Ooi of Plukka. Those interested in applying for the Spring 2014 semester (starting early June) should do so before May 25th but early bird applicants (before May 4th) can be eligible for a variety of scholarships.

The Hive’s Constant Tedder Announces Thailand Expansion and Talks About Co-Work Spaces in Hong Kong

The Hive has been busy expanding their co-work space empire. In the same month as their Kennedy Town expansion, The Hive opened up another location in Sai Kung – catering to the freelancer community.

After talking with founder Constant Tedder, we discovered that South East Asia is the latest on The Hive’s agenda – with Thailand as its first stop. “Bangkok should be opening on May the 20th, and my intention is to look into Singapore, Jakarta, Ho Chi Minh City, Taipei and possibly Shanghai,” reveals Constant. “We want to create a network of co-working spaces across Asia where our members will travel to.”
