Custom t-shirt design app Snaptee has raised US $750,000 from a group of Hong Kong and Southeast Asian investors. New to this round include Hong Kong-based seed and early stage venture fund SXE Ventures, investment incubator NEST and Groupon founders Danny Yeung and Joel Neoh.
According to a release, the funds will be used to speed up expansion into the US and Japan and for a product update, which co-founder and CEO Wai Lun Hong said will have an added focus on community interaction. “The new version will facilitate how people discover other designers’ work. Users will have more interaction with each other through commenting, tagging and following,” he said.
After surpassing a million t-shirt designs on their platform, Snaptee can now shift their focus from design creation to product diversity and product discovery. “Designers will be excited to see how their creations will have an expansive reach on the new version of Snaptee, owing to the emphasis on community sharing aspects we are pushing for,” said Wai Lun. Users can expect to get their hands on the Snaptee reincarnation before the holiday season.
After raising a seed round of $600,000 in 2013, Snaptee has been focusing on partnerships and teamed up with popular cartoonifying app Manga Camera earlier this year. Wai Lun reveals that the Snaptee team is currently working alongside some big names in fashion, as well as many app developers, and we can expect more exciting partnership news to break soon.
Available in six different languages, this Hong Kong startup has shipped out to over 300,000 users to 55 countries and is available in both iOS and Android.
