Hong Kong sports a plethora of fine dining eateries, all of which are unique in the kinds of dishes they offer, or the atmosphere they provide. With so many choices available to the customer, restaurants sometimes find themselves struggling to fill up empty tables. Sabrina Sakhrani realized this problem and created her startup, Loc8Food.com, a platform allowing eateries to advertise seating during off-peak hours.
Originally focusing on aggregating restaurant deals in Hong Kong, Sabrina expanded her vision to correct the issue restaurants have when filling up tables during off hours. Fine tuning her idea at the Lean Startup Machine Workshop, she teamed up with her co-founder, Tiffany Wendler, as well as received great advice. “The mentors were amazing. They really helped us make a clear path, showing us what we should be asking and what we should be finding out.” By talking to individual restaurant owners as well as the general public, Sabrina formulated Loc8Food.com in a way that would greatly benefit both parties.
How It Works: Restaurants are in total control of which tables they would like to offer on a daily basis, depending on their needs. Empty tables are then advertised on the members-only website, Loc8Food.com.For a small fee, members can make reservations and receive discounts ranging from 8%, 18%, 28% or 38% off their entire meal including drinks!
By participating, fine dining restaurants can lower their risk of potential losses (one empty table could round up to about HK$784,000 per year!) and clients can enjoy their favorite meal with the added bonus of a great deal.
